An analysis of first-half sales numbers shows a dramatic contrast between the biggest-volume percent gainers and losers. The gainers are mostly cars, many with four-cylinder variants that get around 30 mpg on the highway or above. The percent losers are mostly trucks. It was easy to come up with a Top 15 list of big-volume percent losers, based on models that accounted for at least 50,000 units in the first half last year. Ashok Will Not Sell Their of Optare So ADL Will Not Bid

In spite of expressing interest in making a bid for Optare, ADL are now saying that they are no longer interested. This remarkable turnaround comes very soon after ADL formally contacted Optare with a request to see figures.
However, ADL was advised by Optare’s financial adviser, Cenkos Securities plc, that “We have received confirmation from Ashok Leyland Limited that it has no intention of selling its stake in Optare to anyone at any price.” As Ashok holds 26% of the issued share capital of Optare and ADL has been unable to obtain any of the information on Optare requested on 23 December 2011, the board of ADL has concluded that it will not pursue further its possible interest.
Optare warned last week that it would be unable to continue trading if they didn’t receive additional financial backing. Ashok will provide a credit line of £12m through the Indian firm’s current banking arrangements.

Major shareholders in ADL are Sir Brian Souter founder of Stagecoach, Sir David Murray, former owner of Rangers and investment banker Sir Angus Grossart.

I don’t wish too add much to all the stuff already written on Green Line other than to say that it’s an altogether enduring brand, even if it’s as far removed from its origins as is Curry’s the retailer. Curry’s, very old readers will recall, started life selling ironmongery and bicycles.

For, in spite of it all, Green Line is a survivor. It’s the bus equivalent of Teflon. None of the mud strewn at the bus industry over the last 80 years has seemed to stick. What other bus brand these days can claim to be as old as Green Line? What other older bus brand is still a household name in its core market area *and* recognised beyond? I can recall no other similar limited stop/express coach brand operating for *80* years. Unless you know differently.

Fitting though the 80th birthday celebrations are, Green Line is very much a shadow of its former self. The glory years of the late 1950s are unlikely ever to return. Then, London Transport Green Line coaches spanned almost the entire home counties, touching the lives of everyone within 30 miles of Charing Cross.
